Weeknotes 17 - 23 March 2025

Took no proper photos this week, so here’s a really bad one of the river and ocean view through the gap between houses…

…for a week where I caught up with people I’d not seen for months and years respectively, while not looking forward to the return of summer temperatures in a few days time.

Reading:

I mostly didn’t enjoy The Terminal Experiment but I did finish it (and it improved towards the end, I think). I’m re-reading one of the Rivers of London series at the moment (pure comfort reading, but also because a new one is on its way later this year). I love this series.

Golf:

I rested Monday (after the Sunday competition), practiced on Tuesday and played well on Wednesday. By the time I got to Friday I’d completely lost it again! It was all made worse by our group falling behind the group in front, because speeding up our play did not help the difficulty I was already having in finding my rhythm. I bailed out of thinking about the score on the 18th as I just tried to re-learn how to hit my hybrid from rough sandy lies (repeatedly and without success).

Remember me saying I need to keep better notes on what went well? Well, that hasn’t really happened! I did hit some nice shots and putted well on some holes but abysmally on others. I’m not sure how to get better at recording what I’ve done, because in competitions there is a lot to think about already.

I have a lesson in the heat on Tuesday next week (probably 34 degrees, which could be worse, but not much). Hope I survive! Then I might not play on Wednesday because it is so hot (forecast for 35 degrees atm), returning when its just a bit hot on Friday (maybe around 33 degrees).

I was really enjoying the cooler temperatures in the morning, so I hope they return sometime soon!

Exercise:

Physio was good again and I did 20 minutes of home weights on Saturday, which was a good effort because I really didn’t want to get started at all.

I walked a bit, due to meeting up at the river with people (separately, at different parts of the river) I’d not seen in years. Trying to wear in my new walking sandals the second time, so now I have huge blisters (even though they are exactly the same style as my old ones).

Food:

We dined on some of the cooking I did previously this week, as well as a few new things. Made it through a huge pack of green beans, so the continued effort to eat more vegetables is going ok. Neither of us felt that well this week (on different days). Although it wasn’t that hot, we may well have both felt the after effects of too much sun playing golf.

Garden:

We did nothing.

Adventure:

This week I met up with two people I’d not seen in ages. Walking, sitting and chatting was good (and much easier now I’ve stopped working, because work isn’t the only thing I’m thinking about).

Sewing:

Thinking is happening, doing is not.

Three ideas:

  • Keep practicing golf (and write up notes from my next lesson, since it’ll be too hot to practice that much this week)
  • Wash the bird baths and make sure they’re topped up all week in the heat
  • Sew something (probably a skirt)

I think I have yet another article review to turn down (but I did turn down the last one eventually).
