Weeknotes 10 - 16 March 2025

This crow has probably seen a lot of me this week (image of the weeknote)…

…as it flew around the golf course.

I’m so tired that as I’m writing this I really can’t think what to say (see Golf below).

Reading:

Finished the two books from T Kingfisher’s fantasy fiction series The Clocktaur War.

Now I’m back reading more from Robert J. Sawyer. This time it’s The Terminal Experiment which I’m not enjoying that much, but probably still want to finish.

Golf:

Played a practice round of 6 holes on Monday after a chipping/pitching practice session (working on ideas from my first coaching session). I took Tuesday off and then played a pretty bad round on Wednesday, followed by more practice (because it was bad and I was blading my chips over the green).

Now, in saying that, I have just realised that as part of my learning journey I need to keep better notes on what went well, to help deal with the feeling that it was all awful, because I know it wasn’t really.

I had my second lesson on Thursday, where I progressed to a new part of the swing, because my diligent practice over the week meant I really had managed to embed the first lesson’s ideas into what I was doing (even if I wasn’t always managing to put it into practice in a competition).

The Friday competition score was much better (and I did hit the ball well). Then there was a big competition on Sunday. I was very nervous playing with D and two blokes I’d never met, but I channelled that into my focus and process… and it worked! I scored well, with a couple of dips (the worst right at the end, because I think I was exhausted at that point having concentrated so hard all the way around).

So as not to flood this space with golf thinking maybe I should keep a separate log of my play… It might be easier with a little note book anyway? I have been resisting that (because I’d be embarassed to be seen taking it so seriously). Maybe I could score each hole using PAD together with a quick note on overall thoughts? I might even be able to manage that when I get home after playing.)

Exercise:

Physio was good. I managed a short home weights session after golf on Friday (which did make me feel better not worse, as it often does). I didn’t do more than this, or go for a run either.

I’ve been spending a lot of time walking and swinging clubs. I even went for a walk away from the golf course.

Food:

Cooked some really good things this week, with split peas and beans (so upping the vegetable, fibre and protein levels finally). I also managed to cook double-ish portions, so we’ve got some freezer stock now, which is always a good thing.

Garden:

I pottered around and filled half a bin with pruning, weeding and tidying in general. D pulled out a bunch more grass runners after that, so we did well!

Adventure:

Oh dear. Sorry. It’s all about golf. Oh… and sewing…

Sewing:

I cut out a skirt and completed the make. Then I wore said skirt on Sunday for presentations and platters post golf. Can’t get better than that really. The skirt is a little narrow and bulky to be more generally comfortable and useful, I think, but it was good enough. If I was still working I’d wear it for that!

My next make might be an overshirt/jacket or another skirt. If it is a skirt then I’m going to have to alter that pattern again! Just a little more ease towards the hem (fine at the waist).

Three ideas:

  • Keep practicing the new golf stuff (because I’m all in with this now and need to keep momentum)
  • Do something in the garden (because I always feel better when that’s done, even if it’s just the watering of pots, which has been lacking recently)
  • Sew something (if there’s time)

I ignored the email from the journal re reviewing an article. I’m going to respond with a no now, because I just don’t want to do the work. Sorry.
