Weeknotes 21 - 27 April 2025

Just another week, with a lot of considering, not that much doing, but some good talking time…

…with D and G.

Reading:

Still re-reading The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy by Will Wight, which I am enjoying a lot. We found some new SF too, so I’m looking forward to that when I’m done. I’ve dropped both Your Worry Makes Sense and How to Do Things. I’ll be trying to get back to them next week.

Golf:

A dedicated golf post this week covers it all really! I’ll be keeping up the practice, with a bit more focus on playing the course because that should help me dial in my process for each shot.

Exercise:

Physio was awesome. I did my first full unassisted pull up! I’ve done a few one off exercises this week, including a couple more single pull ups, but no proper session. Next week has no physio appointment, so I’m going to have to motivate myself to replace this with at least one, preferably two, home sessions.

I was sore after my run last week, so this week I’ve been too focused on golf to want to do that again!

Food:

Food’s been a bit all over the place because we’ve not always been that hungry in the evening (with some big lunches at various times for both of us). I’ve cooked some nice chicken dinners (with rice and pasta).

Garden:

I’ve done no garden work, but we had visitors in our Liquidambar styraciflua. This tree is not native to Australia, but the red-tailed black cockatoos have adopted it as a food source. They were in two days in a row this week having an afternoon snack. D took some pictures, so there’s a collage of red-tail images as the header for this weeknote.

Coincidentally, I went to a short talk run by ReWild on Gardening for Black Cockatoos at Apace. The ReWild website has lots of resources to help people in different parts of Perth know how best to go about this, what native species to plant, etc. I came away from the session with a dwarf Banksia attenuata (a plant I’d already identified as one I’d like) which more than made up the ticket price!

Adventure:

I was runner-up in one of the principal golf events this week. I did a pull up. What more adventure do you need?! Plus, we are planning a NZ trip and also Exmouth later this year.

Sewing:

I’ve thought about it, but the pattern pieces and material remain on the floor in my room.

Three ideas:

  • Prepare for my next golf lesson (more practice and some thinking about what might be good to try next)
  • Begin with the block method on the trouser sewing project
  • Keep thinking about our plans for NZ later this year

I caught up with G again this week and we had a good chat. She is so good for my mental health and makes me laugh!
