A week of down and then back up mentally…

…lots of thinking, some doing.

  • Cover image: Wing-foilers at the river (not me… yet).
  • Kept up with home strength plan in absence of physio; more weight, added balance and core exercises.
  • Finally bought some proper gym shoes for my return to physio next week.
  • Did a little gardening.
  • Did not wing-SUP, although I could have gone to the river (where the foilers go).
  • Decided to ski Perisher for a week in August (with 2 hr individual lessons during the week, if possible, to improve my technique for injury prevention).
  • Got depressed (more than low mood) this week - maybe related to stress from skiing decision, but could be more general anxiety.
  • Two rounds of competition golf:
    • Wednesday was good, although it was a struggle to get and stay positive. Played to my new handicap (24 strokes on the day). Stayed for lunch and felt a bit better.
    • Friday was weirdly unsettled and took ages to get into any rhythm for 28 points (only 12 on first 9, but recovered well with 16 on second).
  • Lacklustre golf practice on Thursday on the range, but improved in the chipping zone.
  • Still not sure how to improve energy recovery from golf, protein intake and rest (reading a book) does help (as does remembering it’s just plain difficult when it’s hot).
  • Plain greek yoghurt + vanilla protein powder is great with muesli, milk and fruit for breakfast. (I have never been able to stomach plain yoghurt early in the morning, but the sweet vanilla means I get a bit more protein to start the day.)
  • Began taking inositol having read about it on a blog I follow. It might (limited evidence and consensus of opinion) help reduce my anxiety spikes to things that really shouldn’t be that awful (eg dealing with money matters, social events with friends, taking up space at the golf club, packing and travel).
  • In spite of the anxious reaction began to work out some things re bank accounts etc.
  • Reading a lot, mostly about Chief Inspector Gamache, but also Piranesi.
  • Got a lot out of my bullet journal monthly review, which lifted me fully from the depressive hole.
  • Birds of the week: red-tailed black cockatoos on the golf course and a friendly wagtail dancing around at home.

Remember:

Don’t get frustrated by what you don’t do - enjoy what you do!
