This week it’s become clear I don’t take enough photographs…
…although that is, in part, because I’ve been trying to pay more attention to what I’m seeing in the moment, rather than recording what I’m seeing.
Anyway, this means the image of the week is a collage of three 30x30 images I’ve shortlisted in the Curtin Fine Arts 30x30 fundraiser. From left to right (links to artist instagrams where possible and to the post for the fundraiser where not):
-
Mikaela Miller Glimpses(Swept) Monotype Print on BFK on Board
-
Jessica Kennedy Wal Hughes Reserve Oil on Board
-
Kristen Hudson Upswell 2025 4 exposure macroalgae (seaweed) Anthotype on gesso board, DIY seaweed photosensitive emulsion sustainably foraged from Whadjuk Country
I won’t make any bids until I’ve seen all the art in person next week. I’ve been watching the bids come in and the fundraising seems to be going well (maybe with the result that this year I won’t end up with anything).
Reading:
My re-reading of The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy is still ongoing. It’s solid fantasy fiction, with pretty well-developed characters and a world with varied magical mechanics. I’ve not been reading much else except for my RSSed blogs (which have been good in recent weeks, and I should share some here at some point).
Golf:
Dedicated golf posts have continued, so all I need to admit here is that practice has not yet converted into success on the course! I’ve not been playing well in competitions. At all. This may have made me a bit grumpy.
Exercise:
Physio was good and I feel like I’m continuing to get stronger. I managed one short-ish home weights session too this week. It was a little spoiled by the frame I use to support my raised leg for Bulgarian Split Squats tumbling sideways… not too much harm done to me or the floor, just a bruised knee. I have a new plan for next time.
No running. I’ve been prioritising other things over this. I did go walking this week (away from golf as well as there).
Food:
It’s a hashtag FirstWorldProblem, but choosing what to eat, in particular in the evening, is just the gift (NOT) that keeps giving. We’ve been managing to consume plenty of vegetables and I’ve been trying to make an effort to enthuse myself in terms of recipe choice. Well, actually, I don’t follow recipes, but I do find inspiration in reading them and then making something up with what I have (or shopping for things that I’m pretty sure will work well in a vague rendition of a recipe I’ve read).
Garden:
I cut back the lower level bushes under our screening trees at the end of the pool a bit more this week. I also sorted out the bird baths and watered all the plants (balcony, front door and inside). I planted out a couple of seedlings. One was the Banksia I picked up a couple of weeks ago at the ReWild talk, the other was a tree (small and delicate, but I need to search to find out what it is) seedling from the back garden. I’m seeing if they survive out the front, because it’s either that or I’ll kill them in their pots keeping them inside for too long!
Adventure:
Not much adventure this week, unless you count beginning to do some tidying and cleaning of my spaces around the house (which is an adventure for me, given how long it’s been since I did anything like this).
Sewing:
Nope.
Three ideas:
- Get comfortable with my driver setup - maybe use my lesson to chat about this
- Keep up the tidying and cleaning
- Try not to panic about NZ and just help D plan
I realise that the weeknotes are going ok now, and they do help me decide what to do in a general sense, although I keep forgetting the “Three ideas” section is there (and sometimes I see I’ve even been forgetting to update it week on week)!
