Made the most of the sun this week, which meant…
…lots of walks (view from Wireless Hill above), photographs of flowers (below), seedpods and cockatoos (on my Instagram here and here), as well as a lot of golf (practice and play).
Reading:
I forgot to read more of The AI Con again - but I will do this next week (when it’s raining). I finished off the SF I wasn’t enjoying greatly, and it definitely improved as the story panned out. Now I’m on some sort of fantasy, probably aimed at young adults (which is not usually a bad thing, I find). If it’s any good I’ll report back next week.
Golf:
I played a social round on Monday (which I can’t call practice exactly, since the people I played weren’t on the same page as me re throwing down another ball, etc).
I’ve been doing dedicated practice sessions again too. Tuesday was short game and Thursday was the driving range for wedges and irons. I’ve been working on my putting as well, using a new drill on Thursday focused on putting the ball in or past the hole (increasing the putt gradually). I’m going to write this up as a dedicated post next week.
I played ok on Wednesday, and it turned out most other competitors found the setup and conditions hard so I won B grade and got nearest the pin on 17 (with a lovely 28 degree hybrid). I struggled on Friday, but it was a team competition so that really didn’t matter. I played some decent shots and putted pretty well (sometimes a bit too much pace, but I have been practising getting the ball past the hole, after all).
Exercise:
I did two solid home sessions this week to complement physio, with reduced weights on arms on Saturday after my vaccinations on Friday afternoon (my arm was sore, but other than that I wasn’t feeling too bad). This meant I achieved my goal to do over an hour of weights (counting both physio and home)! I went for three walks this week and took lots of photos in the sun.
Food:
We cooked a number of good meals this week. I’m still not keeping a better record of the best things I cook, but it didn’t seem a priority this week because of the nice weather.
We tried a new (to us) local pizza place, which is excellent (so we’ll definitely be going back there). The pizza bases are thin and crispy but also chewy, difficult to explain, but that’s what I associate with really good traditional pizza.
Garden:
D did the tidying this week. I was too busy doing other things!
Adventure:
As I mentioned, I’ve been walking three times this week. Once was the usual loop to the river from home, but the other two were a little different and involved some bushland. Both pieces of bush contained Firewood Banksia, Bansksia menziesii or Karla Boorn Pungura in flower.
I seem to be obsessed with Banksias now and am thinking of planting a couple more to complement the one seedling that is (currently) still alive out the front.
Sewing:
Gah… will I ever sew again.
Three ideas:
- Write up what I’ve been practising for golf in a dedicated post
- Aim for over an hour of weights again (counting both physio and home)
- Do something about the thing I’ve been putting off
I decided I needed to be better prepared for wet weather golfing so this week I bought a waterproof hat (lucky find in my pro shop) and black waterproof shoes (far more practical in winter than the white ones I have that currently hurt my feet anyway). I also had my ‘flu and covid vaccinations.
