A quiet week watching the rain (and occasionally getting wet)…
…so I got out one of my new jigsaw puzzles (partially pictured this week).
Reading:
I forgot to read more of The AI Con and should get back to it since it’s one of the books I’ve started recommending to other people. I’m still reading that SF but not really enjoying it. I do want to know how it ends now.
Golf:
I did more on course practice on Monday with J, which is really helping. I’ve been playing better recently and that continued for Friday’s competition. I bailed on Wednesday because of the rain. According to some people Friday was worse (although I think it wasn’t given what Wednesday looked like from the comfort of my sofa). We did make it in before people were called off the course for lightening!!
Exercise:
I did one two home sessions this week to complement physio (because clearly writing my weeknote motivated me to do more, even with physio tomorrow). One was very short, the other was a bit longer. That’s a bit lot better than last week, but I would like to do more. Two longer ones would be a good thing next week, or one full session (difficult to motivate myself for that though). I went for a walk this week down to the river too.
Food:
I cooked some good meals this week, although I struggled a bit to add enough vegetable to some things. Definitely should find a way of keeping track of some of the more interesting “recipes”. Thai chicken meatballs in coconut milk sauce was a high spot (with half the meatballs frozen for another day). I defrosted and used up the frozen sausage meat to make sausage stew last night with mash (which was fitting given the wild weather - warming and comforting).
Garden:
I tidied up again outside this week, but I’m still not making decisions about planting. I’ve been very lax at watering inside, with some things done this week.
I’ve got one plant inside that is being destroyed by mealy bugs and I think it might be time to give up on trying to fix the problem. I treated it successfully last year (I remember it was one of the ones that nearly lost the battle), so I don’t know if it’s worth trying again.
Adventure:
I know that a new puzzle can’t really be called “adventure”, but it is a beautiful picture I’ve enjoyed building the last couple of days. I get obsessed with puzzles, which is one of the reasons this one has stayed in its box for so long. (I think I bought it nearly two years ago, maybe more.) Once I’ve started I find it difficult to walk away and do anything else. The concetrated effort is quite good for me though (and reminds me that I can still concentrate if I want to)!
Sewing:
Shrugs…
Three ideas:
- Keep up the on course practice for golf, but maybe get back to the range/short game specifics too?
- Aim for more weights during the week - I need to build up before August!
- Begin to keep a better cooking record here?
I checked the skiing stuff for fit and practicality and think it’ll certainly do for New Zealand. I would like new trousers with bottom zips if I’m going to do more skiing in the future (because that’ll make accessing my knee brace much easier). Putting on my right boot is really difficult because of my drop foot. I’ve found a possible solution in the boot slider.
I don’t think that thicker socks are a good idea (having read a bit more) and the ones I have feel ok. The boot fitter in Japan who altered my boot to fit the lump on my left foot did a great job. I never got to test them out properly at the time (since I snapped my ACL very soon, maybe even the day after, the fitting).
