Weeknotes 26 May - 1 June 2025

OMG the raven family is on the wing and ready to rumble…

…they’re honing their flying skills, learning to “sing”, playing on the roof (in their hobnailed boots) and, presumably, stealing food from the chickens next door, etc). I’ve nicknamed them “the hooligans”, but they’re not really that bad.

The image for this week isn’t mine, but it is CC BY-NC-SA licensed.

Reading:

Read The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley in actual, physical copy! It’s a good book. I was completely hooked early on, then took a break and on my return to reading found it a bit less compelling. Maybe I needed to keep up the momentum, or maybe it just lost something for me as it unfolded. Still. It’s definitely worth reading.

Back on the Kindle (well, I was still a bit on the Kindle even while reading a real book) I’m now reading Martha Wells’ Wheel of the Infinite which is very enjoyable so far.

Golf:

I did a tiny bit of practice and played one competition this week. Because I was preparing for and then in hospital on Wednesday time was limited. I got a bit wet on Friday and was pretty spaced out, so I’ve been taking it easy and avoiding getting soaked since then.

I’m hoping that taking a break will help my golf, because maybe it’ll mean that next time I play I’ll be a bit more relaxed.

Exercise:

Physio was good and then I was on an enforced break. As I expected, it was very hard to get back into doing anything. I went for a walk. I eventually did home weights (but only after the end of this week, because I’m writing this weeknote late).

Food:

It was an odd week for food, given I was fasting for part of it. After that we had some simple food (eggs) and then more substantial stuff over the weekend. I cooked a nice chilli, with two lots for the freezer (always handy).

Garden:

The cockatoos have been gardening again (before the rain and the ravens took over).

Adventure:

Survived my first ever hospital admission. The preparation was far worse than the procedure.

Sewing:

Thinking about altering clothes, but not actually deciding how to alter them, has been my jam.

Three ideas:

  • Get back to golf practice
  • Build some momentum with home weights
  • Look for skiing preparation advice

Now I’ve got that medical appointment out of the way I’m just waiting for any pathology results to come in (which given the public holiday could take a couple of weeks). I looked in the skiing book for exercises, but it didn’t have anything other than warmups for on the snow. I expect I’m doing all the things already (and I’m pretty sure my physio has it under control too), but I’ll take a look for some advice online (and try to avoid the AI bollocks advice which is sure to be there).
