Weeknotes 6 - 13 July 2025

Began with rain, ended with rain, but sunny too…

…which meant some lovely skies at times (pictured for this post).

Reading:

This week I re-read the first Murderbot story, All Systems Red, because I’m watching the television version and wanted to get a feel for how it’d been adapted, given that so much is explained in Murderbot’s thoughts or “on feeds”. I think it’s worked out surprisingly well. I’m not one to visualise characters in detail, but I’d always thought of Murderbot as androgynous, or maybe even more towards female than male, so I’ve been surprised how well I’ve taken to the television depiction. I love the way Murderbot’s armour has been designed.

Maybe one day I’ll finish The AI Con

Golf:

It was raining at the beginning of the week, but I played two competitions and had a two-hour practice session on the day between them. My chipping and putting is getting better. As with the rest of your game, I don’t think these things can be perfected, but the more you practice the more confidence you get in taking shots and making choices about which shot to attempt. My driving is still the least solid part of my game.

I’m sticking with my setup routine for most shots, but it doesn’t work well with driver. I seem to be better if I just take a grip on the club as I’m looking at the shot and them move around to take the drive with… calm purpose?! I’m not sure why this is and I’m going to test out how well it works to modify my process for all drives next week (since this week I wasn’t consistent). I’ve reintegrated a practice swing for all shots (again, except driver, although I think that just loose swinging before checking the shot direction might help there too).

Exercise:

I did one long (three times around my circuit) home session this week on top of physio. I was very tired after golf competitions this week, and I had lots of plans after my practice session, so didn’t make time then either. That was enough to mean I’d done more than an hour of weights over the week though, so I’m happy with that.

I did plenty of walking, but I’m considering fitting in a short run next week (weather permitting) to see if it makes me feel good… or bad.

Food:

We have a good freezer store at the moment, so that got used a couple of times this week. In between we both cooked well with plenty of vegetables in the mix.

Garden:

We did minimal tidying this week, which means there’s more to do next.

Adventure:

This week I went to my favourite small shop to buy two new jigsaw puzzles from my favourite range. I looked at books too, but I’m very tied in to reading on my Kindle (sorry), so didn’t pick anything out.

Sewing:

Nope. There’s been too much golf to watch this week (and that’ll be the case next week too, I suspect).

Three ideas:

  • Keep doing the additional weights session(s)
  • Make a t-shirt (?!) - left this on again, but it seems unlikely
  • Need to do something more about the thing I’ve been putting off

I’m continuing to be very active and working on my strength is good. I am wondering if reintegrating some running (one or two times) would be good, but it’s difficult to find the time and energy when there’s so much golf to play!
