Went for a less travelled river walk…
…to see the end of the under-the-bridge art “gallery” (pictured above). Thought I wasn’t going to get there for a bit, since there were lots of signs telling me the path was closed around Heathcote and past the yacht club, but it was all fine.
Reading:
This week I’ve been trying to read the first book in the Lightspeed series by Ken McLeod. I’m struggling a bit because I’m reading for short spurts and losing track of different places and groups of people. There are a number of things going on and, while I know they’ll connect eventually, I feel a bit lost right now.
I’m thinking about reading the Aud Torvingen books by Nicola Griffith too. It was the second book in the series that I saw most recently recommended on Mandy Brown’s A Working Library (one of my RSS feed blogs), but I’m happy to find there’s a set (with a number of positive reviews). (And.. now I look back I can see that the first book was a recommendation I missed on A Working Library just a couple of posts ago!)
Golf:
I practised and played twice this week. I managed to carry my concentration through 13 holes of 18 on Wednesday, but found the windy weather on Friday very difficult. I’m still not scoring well, but that’s not really my main goal. I’m focused on playing as many good shots as I can (with scoring following from that if I can only connect enough of those good shots each hole)!
I practised at the public range to focus on driver (following my lesson) and then on my course’s range where I spent more time working through all my clubs before taking a few drives to build confidence in my abilities in that narrower space. I used the drills from my lesson both times. All in all my practice time went pretty well, but I still had issues on course. Next week I’d like to get some practice on course before and maybe between competitions, since playing off grass is different from the mats on the range, so I’d like to get a better feel for the reality of winter fairways and rough.
Exercise:
I did one two-set session and a quick one-set session of weights to complement physio. I didn’t feel like going for a run even in the sun this week, so I went for a river walk (see above) instead.
Food:
We ate well this week with a lot of home cooking. We went out with friends for a great meal at Young George. I had a meal out at a friend’s house too for vegetable risotto and a superb gateux. Lots of vegetables were consumed including brocolli, green beans and potatoes (regular and sweet).
Garden:
D was on garden duty again. Yay! I need to water the indoor plants again.
Adventure:
The river walk was less well trodden than some, but not the best if I’m honest. Adventure awaits soon (more after it happens), so taking it easy right now makes sense.
Sewing:
Should I take out this heading?
Three ideas:
- Leaving this in… Fit in another run? And make sure you do weights twice? It’s a lot to ask, but might be possible
- And this… Work on driving the ball with confidence and all shots on course
- Manage packing and travel anxiety (which is building)
The windy weather winds me up. It’s been very stormy at times this week, and I’m looking forward to calmer conditions next week.
